Welcome back to Down-To-Earth by Jenna, fun chats about your offline world •
Here are three things that I’m thinking about this week:
• Nature’s way is wu-wei, not woo woo
“When you arrive at wu-wei, nothing will be left undone.” - Lao Tzu ✨
• Growing trees, not planting them
Next time you hear a big company promising to plant a tree in the name of you or your purchase, take a look at which organization they’re planting them with. Survivability, appropriateness for the local ecosystem, and sustainable use by and employment for people in the surrounding community are just a few indicators of whether or not planting that tree is the right choice.
Here’s the organization you want to see: Eden Reforestation Projects. Listen to their founder Dr. Stephen Fitch nerd out about propagules and all the little things a community does to bring in the sprouts, benefit from those regenerated ecosystems, and keep them there. 🌱
• 2040 movie, not doom-scrolling
Are you ready for a hopeful and inspiring look at some of the solutions to the climate crisis? The new 2040 movie by Damon Gameau provides a rose-colored, solar-glassed window into the zeitgeist of the environmental movement today. As a dear friend put it, “some of it is a little cringey in places but it’s on the money overall.” ☀️
To your week knowing that you’ve got this, love.
