Same human, new flag
A rebrand as *Matecki Studios*
After seven years working under the flag of Matecki & Co., I’m thrilled to share with you that I’ve rebranded as -
Matecki Studios is a creative social impact group. Artful and inventive stories that change the status quo for the better.
Same human. Same kick ass teams for your projects. Same kind of strategy, content, and communications work.
New flag.
The Ethos
The Matecki Studios logo is a phoenix flying in front of a new moon. The phoenix is a mythical creature made from fire that reinvents itself constantly, throwing its old self to the flames to be reborn.
A phoenix is entirely a product of human stories.
This phoenix has fire, but is made of water. It flies in the faintest moonlight, when time resets, during the beginning of something new.
We need passion and energy to address the world’s most pressing problems, but we need to move deliberately, soft and strong, creatively - like water. We need to see things not only with the light of day but also in those quiet, contemplative hours of the night. We need to not be afraid to throw all that we know to the fire and start over, but must keep the essence of who we are and what matters in each new iteration, with each new story.
The Logo
The Matecki Studios logo is a hanko stamp made by a third-generation hanko (personal seal) carver and dear friend from Tokyo, Hideki Arami. If you look closely enough you’ll see my name in the feathers on the phoenix’s wing.
Arami is a creator of symbols and meaning, an artisan rooted in tradition, a keeper of the most beautiful aspects of Japanese culture. His work is bold. Full of life. Playful.
Arami’s hanko was then set into the digital realm with a beautiful wordmark in Avenir (the most joyful typeface) and perfect scaling, placement, and tweaks by a designer, photographer, and dear friend from everywhere (he’s a nomad), Dan Rubin.
Dan is the human embodiment of thoughtfulness. He lives his life in a very considerate way, and it shows across all his projects, books, classes, social media. His work is meditative. Crisp. Calming.
They’re both massively talented people. I’m thrilled that this new mark came from time with both of them.
It was so fun to finally show you this. What do you think?
Love,
Jenna
P.S. This is the *last chance* to get my book The Hours Before Dusk on preorder. All preorders get a special handwritten poem from me.
”Since 2005, Jenna Matecki has chronicled the moments of her life in the form of poems, short stories, and letters. Her work as a sustainability strategist and journalist has taken her to over 25 cities across four continents, where she puts words to the familiar feelings of nostalgia, curiosity, turning strangers into friends, and falling in love: for a moment, with a feeling, with a place, with the right person at the perfect time. The Hours Before Dusk is a hybrid narrative that challenges readers to find feelings of peace and joy in the everyday and to sharpen their curiosity for the world through evocative stories and poetry.
This genre-bending collection is a culmination of Matecki's life lived around the world, written to invoke feelings of sentimentality for the past, while simultaneously urging you to forge new meaningful experiences. The Hours Before Dusk is an antidote to our chaotic, technology-filled existence, a salve for the anxiety levied by our times. It guards and cherishes what you hold most sacred, and provokes a deep dive into the personal, warm, and unspoken world that you call your own.”
