An investment during a tough year
The only thing constant in my life in 2022 was a colony of honeybees on a rooftop in Amsterdam.
I signed up for a practical biodynamic beekeeping course at the beginning of the year - which had 1-2 monthly sessions from March until October.
Since I signed up for the course in January a ton of unexpected and not-so-great things that were completely out of my control happened.
A lot of wonderful things happened this year too - incredible things like writing the book, a magical trip in July. That’s how it works, how it always works.
But to be very honest with you - this year was the toughest year of my life.
I ended a 5-year relationship and moved out. One of my best friends fled Kyiv to stay with me for a month. A close friend has some nightmarish ongoing medical issues. Work projects that I was really excited about didn’t pan out.
As someone who has always kept detailed plans and goals, I’ve always had a dream to start a super cool, fully circular and sustainable hotel/b&b/long-stay/verdant and plant-based third space.
Thinking about this dream fills me with a happiness that is difficult to describe.
This idea has been in just about every yearly planning document I’ve made for myself over the past seven or so years. It’s an elegant way to blend the sustainability and social impact communications strategist, beekeeper, climate advocate in me with the postcards-sending, book-writing world traveler.
I’ve decided that it’s time to take the stories that I tell and actually bring them to life.
To create spaces that feel like a home away from home - that leverage innovative technology, celebrate local culture, and inspire a different way of living and being.
I love bringing people together. And the idea of creating tangible spaces to share that warmth and effervescence with as many people as possible really excites me.
In 2022 - the year of massive change in my life - it felt like the right time to say “f@#$ it” and invest in that idea, and finally get it out of my head.
I’ve enrolled in an Executive MBA in Global Hospitality Management at Les Roches - the world’s top hospitality school, based in Switzerland and Spain.
My classmates in this Executive MBA run some of the most successful and renowned hotels, bars/restaurants, travel companies, experiences in the world. We’re all doing this part-time and online on top of two residential weeks in person - one in Switzerland and another in Dubai.
This program is an investment I’ve made in the long-term. Equipping myself with the business models and financial performance skills necessary to make this company a real success.
While I’m studying, I’m still doing my communications strategy, branding, and copy work, and am very much open to being hired (even going in-house with the right team). If you or someone you know needs my kind of expertise please let me know - I could use the money these days as I need to pay for this MBA.
I could use your help getting this idea off the ground and restoring serenity in my life.
… and know that I have a jar of fresh honey with your name on it, and a bouquet of flowers for you from the garden.
